100 walks, one city: what we've learned

May 20, 2026

When we started, the idea was simple: walk somewhere in Richmond every week with whoever wanted to come. No agenda, no fundraising, no app. A hundred walks later, a few things have proven true. **People come back for the people.** The route matters less than we thought. Show up twice and you're a regular. **Neighborhoods are smaller than maps suggest.** Walking Church Hill to Shockoe takes 12 minutes. Driving makes the city feel further apart than it is. **Mornings are magic.** Our best-attended walks start before 8am. Something about doing one good thing before the day starts. **Strangers become neighbors.** We've had introductions turn into book clubs, carpools, and at least two marriages we know about. Here's to the next hundred. Bring water.
